  • Condition: Very Good Condition On Linen. Prior to backing, this poster was folded in half and printed on the back of a map. The top white border may have been partially trimmed but all borders are of equal size on linen. Overall slight yellowing of paper. This poster has been stored flat for over 23 years and will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube.

    Here is a rarely seen original Belgian movie poster from the first release of John Ford's classic historical drama,
    Drums Along The Mohawk
    .  Starring Claudette Colbert and Henry Fonda as a young married couple facing the harsh realities of life in New York's Mohawk Valley during the late 18th Century, this technicolor movie was a huge box office success and nominated for two Academy Awards. This poster is from the original release of the film in Belgium. It was most likely released shortly after the end of the war in Europe (1945 or 1946) since it is printed on the back of an ordnance map and is in the smaller post-war format to conserve paper. It has been backed on linen and looks wonderful with its beautiful original Belgian artwork. The colors on this poster appear muted but I believe that was the intention of the artist and lithographer since the only other two examples I have seen look exactly like this one. This poster is in great condition for its age. It seldom (if ever) comes up for sale or auction and would make a great addition to anyone's Ford, Fonda or Colbert movie poster collection.
