    Description

Original Australian Daybill Poster (14x30). Near Mint Condition.
Original Australian Daybill Poster (14x30) for the W. S. Van Dyke jungle adventure classic, TARZAN THE APE MAN (1932) starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the first of his 26 Tarzan books in 1912. When the Tarzan character became an overnight sensation, Burroughs planned to exploit the character in every way possible: comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Eight film versions were made before the Van Dyke film became a box office bonanza. Olympic swimming champion Weissmuller became almost a cult figure and went on to make 11 more Tarzan films in his career. This film also introduced the loveable chimpanzee Cheetah. As a "pre-code" film, TARZAN THE APE MAN has several revealing and sexy scenes that caused quite a stir in 1932. Lots of jungle skin! This beautiful stone lithograph Australian daybill is in near mint condition.
